Based on his experience as a supermarket fitter, Steve knew what was required by supermarkets for effective and efficient installation of aisle dividers. He had the idea of a one piece, aluminium, twist lock pole that would fit all shelving and potential banner sizes. However, who would be interested in making a prototype and be capable of manufacturing in large numbers? By taking the idea to John, John made the connection with a walking pole manufacturer in China.
Initially using simple hand drawings, the developers at the walking pole company listened, discussed ideas by e mail and then produced the first detailed drawings. Once John was satisfied, they made the first prototype – it was then introduced to the high-street retailers, who loved it.
The product, in various powder coated finishes is now used across many well-known supermarkets; Sainsbury’s, Morrison’s, Waitrose and Wickes.
What was Required?
A relevant manufacturer who could take a design idea from a basic drawing and develop a product that could be mass produced. The idea was based on a one piece extendable aluminium pole for hanging dividing banners on supermarket shelves.
